I know that sucks, but that is what you have to do in this situation. Keep expanding your alloy production and military growth and don't stop or you will get overtaken. Getting allies isn't hard to do with a little bribery, especially if your neighbors are also feeling threatened by the Exterminators. Your best bet against them is to get a couple allies to support you and make sure the Exterminators don't purge all of your other neighbors or you will get cornered very quickly. This is because Machine Empires have been overpowered since 2.2 and have only gotten stronger since then.
It is one of the strongest empire types in the game, and as far as I know is second only to Driven Assimilators. Swarms have the disadvantage of being a Hive, so their economy and growth will taper off compared to yours not long after you start building robots.ĭetermined Exterminators are scary. If I survived to that point (which generally entails being far away enough from them) I can win against them pretty easily.įor reference I'm not really a good player, I'm playing in Admiral difficulty, but I've found I can hold my own against most other empires just fine most of the time, so I would prefer to find a solution that doesn't just entail lowering difficulty if possible.Īn addendum to what others have said, if you can survive against a Ravenous Hive past early game, then they won't be much of a threat. Then in the mid to late game, it reverses, and most other empires, even those on the verge of death, seem to be able to stop them from finishing them off quite readily. Recently had a game where the genocidal empire was 2 empires over from me when I discovered them, and bridged the gap in less than 15 years, before destroying me the moment they had finished my neighbor. Other AI empires also seem to be curbstomped just as much as I am, with the gestal genocidals almost invariably having destroyed 3 to 4 empires by 2250 on a very large galaxy.
I've had several games now getting steamrolled by these kind of empire very early, even when they were not my closest neighbors. So, basically just what the title asks: How to resist gestal genocidals before, say, around 2275 ?
